Health Office

Urban Academy makes your child's health and well-being a top priority.

We are dedicated to promoting the good health and well-being of the students, and here, you will discover information about required health exams and services offered to your children while they are in school and at school events. If your child has special health needs, we encourage you to contact the Certified School Nurse to plan for your child's care even before starting school. As the first point of contact for any health-related concerns, our primary goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment that promotes optimal physical, mental, and emotional well-being for all students.

Making the Right Call When Your Child is Sick:

A child must stay home or will be sent home if he/she has any of the following:

  • A fever at or above 100.0
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Severe illness symptom(s) that are impeding the student’s ability to learn.
  • Lice

Your child may return to school using the 24 hour rule:

  • Fever free for 24 hours (without using fever reducing medications such as Tylenol/Ibuprofen).
  • 24 hours have passed since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
  • After a full 24 hours from the first dose of antibiotic for a bacterial infection.
  • Symptoms are improving.
  • No live lice are present on the scalp after treatment for lice with confirmation from the school nurse.

Keeping your child home when sick will help to decrease the spread of illness to others. Please notify the school nurse if your child is absent due to illness or if your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness.

As always, for any questions or concerns, please reach out to your School Nurse.
